Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Hispanic Caucus web site!  We are a related professional organization of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  The purpose of the Hispanic Caucus is to: Encourage the study of the communicative processes of language, speech, and hearing within the Hispanic community, stimulate the exchange of information among persons involved with the Hispanic population, disseminate such information, encourage individuals involved with the Hispanic population to pursue professional growth, promote the treatment of communicative disorders of Hispanic persons, advocate the rights of Hispanic individuals with communicative disorders, and promote the collective interests of the Caucus members.

    The Hispanic Caucus invites all speech-language-hearing professionals and students, as well as other stakeholders in the communication of individuals from the Hispanic community to join and participate in our mission.  Our Caucus benefits from its rich diversity.  This diverse membership includes individuals of the many distinct communities that fall under the “Hispanic” umbrella as well as those of other ethnic heritages who respond to the needs of the Hispanic community. 

It is my pleasure to introduce the new Executive Board, which was elected at the Hispanic Caucus’ annual meeting at the ASHA Convention in New Orleans during the fall of 2009.  The new board is composed of individuals with a wonderful array of talents and experience: Rebecca Alva; Vice-President for Professional Practices; Hortencia Kayser; Vice-President for Public Relations; María L. Muñoz; Newsletter Editor; Geraldo Gutiérrez; Secretary; and Cynthia Quiroga; Treasurer

    There's always plenty to do!  Over the last few years, the Caucus has established the infrastructure for its members to do such things as: find information, network with others, find a graduate program, find a job, and grow.  Please take a few minutes to look over our web site.  Also join us on Facebook and our Online Forum and let your friends and colleagues know about the Caucus!

¡Bienvenidos y gracias por visitar el sitio web de la Hispanic Caucus!  Somos una organización profesional afiliada con la American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).  El propósito de la Hispanic Caucus es: Fomentar el estudio de los procesos comunicativos del lenguaje, habla y audición dentro de la comunidad hispana, estimular el intercambio de información entre personas interesadas en la población hispana, difundir tal información, alentarles a personas interesadas en la comunidad hispana de obtener el desarrollo profesional, promover el tratamiento de trastornos comunicativos de la gente hispana, abogar por los derechos de personas hispanas con trastornos comunicativos, y promover los intereses colectivos de los miembros de la Caucus.

Me da gusto presentar la nueva Comisión Ejecutiva, la cual fue elegida durante la reunión anual de la Hispanic Caucus a la Convención de ASHA en New Orleans en noviembre del 2009.  La comisión nueva consiste de individuos quienes poseen una rica colección de talentos y experiencia: Rebecca Alva; Vice-Presidente por Prácticas Profesionales; Hortencia Kayser; Vice-Presidente por Relaciones Públicas; María L. Muñoz; Editora del Boletín de Noticias; Geraldo Gutiérrez; Secretario; y Cynthia Quiroga; Tesorera.

¡Siempre hay mucho por hacer!  Durante estos últimos años, la Caucus ha establecido una infraestructura para que sus miembros puedan hacer tales cosas como: buscar información, establecer contactos profesionales, buscar un programa de postgrado, buscar empleo, y desarrollarse.  Favor de tomar unos minutos para revisar nuestro sitio web.  También, reúnase con nosotros a Facebook y sobre nuestro Foro en Línea, e informen a sus amigos y socios sobre la Caucus!

Celebrating Accomplishments

 The Hispanic Caucus recognized 5 individuals at our annual meeting this year in New Orleans. These persons were honored by ASHA for their contributions to the speech/language/hearing professions and to the Hispanic community. Certificates of recognition were presented to Aquiles Iglesias, Kathryn Kohnert, Luis Riquelme, Marlene Salas-Provance, Mario Svirsky. Please join us in celebrating victories within the Caucus, and honoring these individuals outstanding achievements!
